Women’s Health

Women have different healthcare needs and concerns than men. Demanding household work environments, family responsibilities, and the stress can take their toll on a woman’s physical and psychological health. This highlights the importance of identifying and addressing the needs of all women and their unique requirements for health and wellness. Every year, Cervical Cancer kills more than 21829 Ugandans and 32617 new cases are reported annually. Cervical Cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, but most of these deaths could be prevented with adequate prevention measures, such as vaccination of girls against human papillomavirus (HPV) and annual screening to detect and treat precancerous lesions. HPV vaccination has been shown to protect women from chronic infection by HPV 16 and 18, the two main types of this virus known to cause cervical cancer. However, with few exceptions, HPV vaccination is never heard of in many districts in eastern Uganda. Young girls are at risk of developing cervical, which is likely to go untreated, due to lack of annual checkups and funds for treatment. We encourage all women to go for annual screening and vaccinating young girls against human papilloma virus (HPV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV), which are major causes of cervical and liver cancer. This challenges women to take charge and become educated to identify critical warning signs, which are often subtle and misdiagnosed. There are also medical conditions that exist only in women such as:

These conditions require specialized care. Together with highly trained and experienced staff we provide various outpatient services that encompass spiritual, physical, and psychological needs.

Preventative Care

Preventative Care is recommended for everyone, screenings and tests are available for early detection of acute and chronic conditions. Ultrasound (also called a sonogram) is a quick and easy diagnostic technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the organs and systems within the body. These sound waves reflect off body structures and are analyzed by a computer to create a two-dimensional picture. Ultrasound images are often a valuable first step in diagnosis. We have full range of ultrasound services, including:

Prenatal Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a common prenatal procedure used even in low-risk pregnancies to confirm your due date or evaluate your baby’s health. If there are any concerns that your baby may be at risk, ultrasound can help provide the information your healthcare provider needs to give you the best possible prenatal care. During ultrasound, high-frequency sound waves pass through your body and your baby. Some of those sound waves reflect off your baby and return to the handheld device called a transducer. This gives the information back to the ultrasound machine, which creates a visual image on the monitor. You can't hear the sound waves, but the ultrasound equipment can.  While you lie down on the exam table, a layer of gel or oil is applied to your stomach so the sound waves more easily reach your baby. Then the transducer is slowly moved back and forth over your stomach. The procedure is painless and takes less than half an hour.

Doppler Ultrasound

Doppler ultrasound uses harmless sound waves to evaluate and create pictures of blood flow inside your blood vessels. This test can find narrow or blocked arteries and veins due to an abnormality pressing on them or blood clots inside.

Even if you are diligent about brushing, you should visit a dentist at a minimum of every six months for a checkup and cleaning. If left untreated, this can build up, causing gum disease and other forms of tooth decay. With our professional and caring dental care, our goal is to develop healthy teeth and good dental habits for a lifetime.
